Mug care guide

High-fired stoneware is strong, and a Trevinge mug can last for decades with everyday use. Most damage comes from sudden temperature changes and knocks against hard surfaces. These steps help your mug stay in good shape.

Before first use

  1. Wash the mug by hand in warm water with a little soap.
  2. Check the unglazed foot ring. If it feels rough after shipping, rub it gently with fine sandpaper or the bottom of another mug.
  3. Dry the mug fully before storing it.

Avoiding thermal shock

Removing tea and coffee stains

The inside glaze is smooth, but tannin stains can build up over months. Make a paste of baking soda and a few drops of water, rub it around the inside with a soft cloth, leave it for ten minutes and rinse. Avoid steel wool and scouring powders, which scratch the satin oat glaze on the C1 and dull the celadon on the C2.

Chips and cracks

A small chip on the foot ring does not affect use. A chip on the rim or a crack through the body can let water into the clay, so stop using the mug for hot drinks and use it for pens or plants instead. Hairline crazing in the celadon glaze on the C2 is part of how that glaze cools and is not a crack.

Storage

Stack C1 mugs at most two high and keep C2 mugs unstacked, since their tapered shape can wedge together. Hang mugs by the handle only if the hook is padded.
